Research missions in Lattuce — structured synthesis with evidence export
Use Writer research missions for literature review and evidence export — reviewable output before you compose sections.
Research missions are structured jobs over your corpus on lattuce.app. They produce synthesis and bibliography you can audit before you draft prose in Writer — not a one-shot chat answer you cannot verify.

What missions are
A mission is a multi-step job with a template, timeline, and export surfaces:

Steps run asynchronously — large jobs may take tens of minutes. Watch the mission timeline; a stale warning after ~5 minutes idle is not always a failure.
Create a literature review mission
- Open your paper at lattuce.app.
- Attach library sources in the left pane — each must show ready.
- Go to Research → Missions → New mission.
- Choose Literature review.
- Wait for completion; open the synthesis report and evidence matrix.
If you have no sources yet, run literature discovery first (from the research plan or Missions), approve attachments, then start the review mission.
Review and approve mission output
Before you treat mission output as canon:
- Read the synthesis report — does it match your scope?
- Scan the evidence matrix — are the right papers represented?
- Approve pending source attachments the discovery mission proposed.
- Export to vault if you want a long-form note in your Research agents folder.
- Download export.md or export.bib if you need files outside Lattuce.
Do not skip human review. Missions accelerate reading; they do not replace your judgment.
Compose from synthesis
- In the completed mission panel, click Compose from synthesis.
- Writer opens with grounded starting text and cite chips tied to attached sources.
- Edit, run citation checks, and move sections toward approval.

Opt-in bibliographic write-back (ZOTERO_WRITEBACK=1) can create or link items in Zotero from Library or a paper’s cited references. BibTeX export remains available for manual import.
